Management and Monitoring Plan for the Coyote Ridge Preserve

Santa Clara County Open Space Authority (Santa Clara County).

Jodi McGraw Consulting prepared the draft management and monitoring plan for the 1,880-acre UTC-Coyote Ridge property, to guide initial management and monitoring, provide a baseline report for the conservation easement, and to enable the property to be enrolled in the Valley Habitat Plan Reserve System. To develop the plan, JMc:

  • Synthesized existing available information about the site, in a literature and GIS database used to develop the plan;
  • Conduct site visits to assess and map habitat conditions for rare species, evaluate effectiveness of existing management and opportunities and constraints to enhancement management, and document all facilities and other baseline conditions;
  • Developed biological goals and objectives at the ecosystem, community, and species level, and strategies for management of grazing, ponds, exotic plants, and public access, which are designed to achieve them; and
  • Developed monitoring protocols and an adaptive management framework to evaluate success at achieving the goals and objectives.

The plan was used enroll the property into the Valley Habitat Plan Reserve System.
