Santa Cruz Mountains Conceptual Area Protection Plan

Sempervirens Fund (Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties).

Jodi McGraw Consulting led a multidisciplinary team of ten experts to prepare a conservation plan for a 224,000-acre region in the western slope of the Santa Cruz Mountains in coastal Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties. As the prime consultant on the project, JMc worked with the multidisciplinary team of experts to:

  • Design and implement the highly-collaborative two-year planning process;
  • Conduct data development and analyses for biodiversity, and collaborate with other experts to assess watershed integrity and forest conditions;
  • Integrate data synthesized in six thematic areas into a weighted overlay analysis used to assess conservation value throughout the region;
  • Compile a comprehensive land ownership database for the region;
  • Prioritize all unprotected land based on its conservation and strategic value;
  • Prepare the plan, including text and tables, and high-quality maps; and
  • Facilitate Department of Fish and Wildlife approval of the CAPP.

JMc is currently assisting conservation agencies and organizations with work to implement the CAPP through land protection projects.
