Habitat Characterization and Experimental Conservation Research Program for Yadon’s Piperia

Consultant to the County of Monterey, (Monterey Co.), November 2003-August 2015.

Jodi McGraw Consulting teamed with Ecosystems West Consulting Group to conduct a series of studies of Yadon’s piperia, which were designed to help inform conservation and development work in the Del Monte Forest. Specific projects have included:

  • Designed and implemented research to characterize habitat for the endangered orchid, by identifying factors influencing the species’ distribution, abundance, and demographic performance using multivariate and univariate analyses.
  • Developed and implementing a comprehensive multi-year experimental research program examining effectiveness of management strategies to enhance populations, including exotic plant control, herbivore exclusion, regeneration niche studies, and transplantation and other horticultural techniques.
The research program has been used to inform conservation and management for the endangered orchid on the Monterey Peninsula.
