Santa Clara County Open Space Authority (Santa Clara County).
Jodi McGraw Consulting assisted development of the Authority’s Conservation Grazing Policy, which guides grazing management the open space preserves. JMc also prepared grazing plans for three open space preserves totaling more than 4,000 acres in Santa Clara County. To develop these plans, JMc:
- Synthesized available information about the conservation values, facilities, and uses of the preserves;
- Collaborated with Authority staff to develop goals for grazing management that are consistent with broader management, including outdoor recreation and education programs;
- Developed feasible grazing strategies to achieve the goals, based on the unique conditions of each preserve, including the ecology and condition of the grasslands and oak savannas occurrences of species-status species; and
- Developed adaptive management and monitoring programs, to evaluate the effects of grazing and promote its long-term effectiveness.
The plans are currently being used to guide grazing management.
